Population:

The California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) has established a number of trout population monitoring locations in the native waters of the California golden trout which are sampled by electrofishing on a regular basis (usually every 5 years). Trends in age, growth and size composition of the fishery can then be evaluated over time in relationship to changes in habitat. This project is located in the Inyo National Forest (INF) and within the Whitney cattle grazing allotment, which is being rested for 10 years due to concerns about grazing impacts to native trout populations and habitat. Trout population estimates will be conducted at three sites in Golden Trout Creek at Big Whitney Meadow.

Objectives:
  • Conduct trout population estimates at three sites in Golden Trout Creek in the Big Whitney Meadow area in the summer of 2008.

  • California Deot. of Fish and Game
  • Trout Unlimited
