In conjunction with a 2006 WNTI-funded project, Bear Wallow Creek willbe renovated between an old fish barrier on U.S. Forest Service lands and the new fish barrier constructed in 2007 on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. This project will extend the protected habitat for Apache trout in Bear Wallow Creek by approximately two miles.

During summer 2008, a barrier further upstream than the
WNTI funded barrier failed during high flow conditions and the renovation was delayed until summer 2009. This delay will allow for re-construction of the upper, failed barrier and completion of NEPA by the U.S. Forest Service. Funding allocated to this project remain
available for use in the project during 2009.
