Badger Creek - Restoring/Recovering Bull Trout in 8 miles of Little Lost River, ID

- Fish passage
- In-stream and riparian habitat
- Bull Trout
The Little Lost River has an isoloated population of listed bull trout, and Badger Creek is an important spawning and rearing stream in the drainage.
The existing irrigation diversion on private property was a complete barrier to upstream passage, and irrigation withdrawals used to totally dewater the stream below the diversion. Past land use had altered the riparian vegetation and habitat within Badger Creek. Bull trout can now access the headwaters of Badger Creek.
The project involved the following: 1) remove the existing diversion on Badger Creek, which is a passage barrier; 2) reconnect Badger Creek, which is currently diverted and isolated from the Little Lost River, back to to the Little Lost River; 3) revegetate the reconstructed Badger Creek channel; 4) fence Badger Creek from cattle grazing.
- Restore passage into Badger Creek from the Little Lost River, and improve riparian and instream habitat that has been impacted by previous land use.
